Dr. Mark Scurria
DDS
Dr. Mark Scurria is a prosthodontist specializing in finding solutions for patients in need of complex restoration, denture or implant care. Originally from Pennsylvania and Ohio, Dr. Scurria has lived in North Carolina since high school and earned his undergraduate and DDS degrees from the University of North Carolina. After dental school, he went on to a VA General Practice Residency in San Antonio and then earned his prosthodontic specialty certification at the VAMC in Houston and the University of Texas Dental Branch.
Being a proud North Carolinian and Tar Heel fan, after specialty training, Dr. Scurria was pleased to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry and lead the denture curriculum for seven years prior to entering private practice. Dr. Scurria left the university as a tenured Associate Professor with many notable research and scholarly publications to his credit.
When not in the office, Dr. Scurria enjoys spending time with his wife, Amy, their teenage son and daughter and their oldest daughter, also a UNC alum, who works in advertising in New York City. They are a travelling family who have enjoyed houseboat vacations in Canada, France, Ireland and the Netherlands.
One thing is for sure, if you want an expert in “denture and implant dentistry” you’ve found him. Dr. Scurria has been providing digital dentures since 2015, and implant restorations since his first day in VA residency. He is an adjunct associate professor at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry and is Board Chair for a new non-profit clinic being built in Durham, Local Start Dental which is dedicated to providing denture and dental implant care for historically underserved patients and veterans.
